Breaking Free with the Devil

We're back with another episode of Scary Tarot Cards and today we're going to hang out with the Devil.

This is one of the cards in the tarot that people kind of freak over.

While many of us are aware that the Devil is really just an olde worlde Christian construct to make the Pagan God Pan out to be evil, we have still been so programmed to see the Devil as "evil" or "bad" that turning this guy over in a reading can give some of us a bit of a fright.

Instead of losing your shiz when you see this guy in your reading, here's some really simple and higher vibe ways to think about the Devil Tarot card...

Controlling relationships

The Devil often comes up in readings for clients when there's an element of control present. While this card sometimes tells us that there is abuse present, more often than not I find this card comes up when there is an energy of one person having the upper hand in other ways.

So if you ask about your new guy/girl and pull this card, be discerning and keep yourself safe, but also have a think about the power balance. Are you always waiting for him/her to text you back? Playing the "don't text until Wednesday" game? Or how about always letting them choose what you watch on TV? Or maybe you just generally feel like you're more into them than they are with you.

This can also come up in friendships where there is an imbalance of power and also for stuff going on in family relationships.

We can also be the Devil in relationships. Are you trying too hard to control the person you're with? 

It's always useful when big cards like the Devil come up to pull more cards around the issue to really work out what's going on, instead of just having a freak out and thinking the worst.

Stuck

I speak to a lot of people in my work who feel very stuck in their present situation. Whether it's where they live, the job they are in, or life in general.

We tend to blame things - money, or lack thereof, other people, our family, our partner, our lack of confidence and self-esteem when we're feeling this way.

Sometimes this is useful in identifying what's keeping you stuck, but it's also worth remembering that most of the time, the Devil is your own stuff, your own limiting beliefs about yourself. 

When we feel stuck, the Devil represents whatever it is that is keeping us where we are. You can always pull another card or even do a whole spread to help you pin point what is holding you down and how to release yourself from it.

Addictions

The Devil can also represent addictions. While there are the big ones - drugs, alcohol, gambling, food, there are also other addictions that can keep us trapped.

Being addicted to checking Instagram, addictions to coffee, procrastination or certain types of behaviours.

Pull more cards around this if you need to and ask how you or the person you are reading for can begin to heal and recover from THEIR addictions.

Fear

I've seen the Devil come up often to represent general fear energy.

Fear can be a powerful messenger for us at times. It can show us where we're stuck, where we are feeling scared and anxious, and what we are really afraid of. Looking our fears in the face can be powerful and freeing, so if you have some fear to feel and work through, the Devil may let you know.

Breaking Free

Although the Devil card can absolutely show us our addictions, who or what is controlling us or what we're trying to control, our fear stuff and where we are stuck in life, what I love the most about the Devil card is the opportunity to break free.

When the Devil card comes up you have two choices. You can read it as "you are trapped" or "you can break free".

Venus Retrograde Spread for Tarot or Oracle x

Happy Venus Retrograde lovers! :D

So wtf actually is Venus Retrograde? Well, it's when Venus appears to be going backwards in the sky. You know how when Mercury goes Retrograde it throws a whole bunch of light on what's going on in the communication areas of our lives? Well, Venus is kind of like that but it throws light on the stuff we love.

Stuff concerning Love and Money are the main things that come to the surface during a Venus Retrograde, and I always find that usually it's stuff that is ready to be cleared.

It's an awesome time to let go of exes and past crushes, to do some work on your own money/abundance stuff and the thing I love best about Venus Retro, is it always highlights to me what I really value and care about.

So I created this really simple spread to help you to work out what you value, and how to reconnect to the things you appreciate and love the most.

CARD ONE: where's your heart at?

Venus retrograde will show you what's going on in your heart in a big, big way. This card will  help you to work out where you are, what's on your heart and if you have any blocks or challenges in this area.

I got the Ace of Swords (current stalker card!) and to me this is all about feeling into the new power energy coming in, but also blending my heart and mind stuff.

CARD TWO: what are your subconscious values?

Sometimes we really aren't aware of what we value. We might be saying we value one thing, but actually, when we dig a little deeper we find out there's a lot more going on!

I got the Queen of Pentacles. This was pretty big! I always like to pride myself on not really being focused on cash money, but this reminds me that actually, I do really value financial abundance and security, perhaps more than I realise at times!

CARD THREE: what do you no longer value?

Values change. What you value now will probably be very different to what you most valued a few years ago and that's usually a good thing! 

I got the Page of Wands and to me this feels like a hello from some of my old values around being seen, dancing on the podium in the club and getting the lead in the school play. While I still value being seen, I feel like I now value being heard and being understood a lot more than just being "seen".

CARD FOUR: what do you *think* you value?

Ooooh, this can bring up some stuff! Sometimes what we think we value is not what we value at all!

I got the Five of Wands. A little bit of a weird one in this position, but what I get from this is that I *think* I value competition, hustle, having things to do, things to deal with and rushing around being cray busy. I don't really value that stuff, what I do value is a chill life.  *Jaw drop. Totes.

CARD FIVE: how can you best reconnect with what you value and love most?

This card will help you to connect to what is really important to you in the here and now.

I got the Hierophant here. This feels a bit like teaching what you know. I can reconnect to what I love by helping others to reconnect to what they love. Naaw!

Dealing with the haters spread for tarot or oracle cards

Urgh, who here has ever had to deal with a hater? *Puts hand up.

The more you put yourself and your light out there the more haters seem to pop up to try to pull you off your magical unicorn.

So not cool.

Here's a spread you can use when you're feeling totally bummed by the haters.

Card one: why has this hater affected you?

Some days haters will not bother us at all, we can barely even notice them. Other days it's like we're being thrown daggers and whatever we do, we can't dodge them.

This card will help you to work out why this particular hater has gotten under your skin.

I got Veggie Burger. This feels like my hater is affecting me because it makes me feel like I'm not free or safe to make my own choices without judgement.

card two: what truth do you need to see?

When we look deeper we can usually see there's so much more to situations than "that person hates me". Sometimes we need to see a truth about ourselves, sometimes we need to see a truth about the other person involved.

I got Path. The truth I need to see relates to me staying on the path and not running off to chase haters and get mega distracted, so much so I might even get lost! Yikes!

 

card three: how can you reconnect to your own heart space?

Dealing with haters can bring up all the emotions, especially stuff happening in your chest and heart space. This card will show you what you need to know in order to reconnect with with your heart.

I got Light. 'Nuff said really. White light heart chakra clear out stat!

card four: how can you call back your power now and in the future?

Haters can make us feel really dis-empowered. Ick. This card will help you to begin to move back to your own power in the now, and also give you some advice on what you can do next time you encounter a hater.

I got Donuts. For me this is all about choices. It is my choice how I deal with the haters in my life. I can get mad and sad and eat all the donuts, or I can maybe just sit with one donut and a decaf coffee, have a bit of a moan and then let it go and move on.

card five: how to overcome, let go and move on

Ah  yes, if it only it were really that easy... well maybe it is! This card will give you some high level guidance on how you can overcome this situation and move on with your day, and your life.

I got Home. This feels to me like literally - "go home"! This feels like both a literal going home, getting safe on my couch and watching a John Hughes movie, or calling my folks, but also it's a message to connect with my inner home and my spirit family.

The Breakfast Club Spread for Tarot + Oracle Cards

The Breakfast Club is one of the most awesome movies ever made.

I got to thinking lately about the archetypes featured in the movie. We each have all of the archetypes of the tarot within us, and I think we all have all the archetypes featured in the Breakfast Club within us too.

I thought it would be cool to make a spread to help us get some messages from our own inner BASKET-CASE, inner criminal, inner brain, inner athlete and inner princess.

So grab a decaf earl gray and your tarot, oracle, uno or playing cards and let's have a play! :D

CARD ONE: What blocks you from being seen and loved by others?

This card will shed a little light on why sometimes you might struggle to fully connect with others and feel seen and loved when you do.

CARD TWO: Where should you play by the rules?

Sometimes rules are there for a reason. This card will show you how to play the game. (This card may also show you where not to play by the rules!)

How can you stand in your confidence and power?

There is nothing wrong with being a brain or a geek. Freaking own it! This card will show you how. 

How can you better focus your intent and take action?

Taking action is so important, but you have to make sure you have a clear intention and focus otherwise it's just wasted energy. This card will point you in the right direction.

How can you let go of ego and be of service to others?

How can you drop the "what will I get out of it?" and just be of service?

He-Man Spread for Tarot or Oracle Cards x

Last week I posted a She-Ra Spread to help us with standing in our power.

I talked about how I reckoned that She-Ra was an embodiment (uh, cartooniment?) of the Goddess, the Divine Feminine.

And because I'm all about equality of the sexes I decided that it wouldn't be right not to follow up with a He-Man spread for connecting with our own inner divine masculine!

There's a lot of issues with the Patriarchy right now and it's easy at times to like, not want to connect with our own masculine energy because of it. But the divine masculine is cool. It's like all the good aspects of masculine energy.

Five Crystals for Transition + Change

I don't usually blog about crystals that much, so if you dig this crystal post and want more of them let me know!

K, so we're mid January 2017 and I don't know about you, but I still feel very much like I'm in the transition. I'm still getting used to the energy of this year, working out what it's about and how to work with it to create an awesome year. Oh, PS - if you want to find out more about 2017 check out the free e-book!

These crystals may be useful little tools for you if you're like me and feeling a bit OMG what is this? right now, or if you're going through any kind of transition or change in your life.

I also thought it would be cool to connect these crystals to tarot cards too, to give you some idea of crystals that you can gather round you when these cards pop up in your spreads.

Oh, and like with everything, crystals can totally vibe with different people in different ways, and these are just some ways I connect with these babies...

Crystals + Tarot of the Sevenfold Mystery by Robert M Place x

1. Apache Tears + death

Apache Tears is one of my all time favourite crystals. I nearly put smoky quartz on here, but I felt like actually, change and transition is bloody HARD y'know? 

Apache tears is great for grounding, healing and especially heart healing. It can help bring you back into yourself when you're going through something really difficult.

Perfect for big stuff like break-ups, losing your job, moving country, or just trying to get through any other tough and big change - internal or external.

2. Zebra Jasper - Justice

Zebra Jasper is an awesome grounding and balancing stone.

When we're going through change of any kind it can be really easy to get mega floaty. Having your roots totally ripped out from beneath you sucks. This stone connects with your root and earth star chakra to reconnect those roots, and helps you to balance your chakras and masculine and feminine energies.

3. Botswana Agate - Ace of Cups

A bit of Botswana Agate is very good for soothing the soul and helping you feel calm and chill.

In times of change we can get pretty stressed out and anxious! Botswana Agate has a cool, kind and relaxing vibe which makes it perfect for those moments when you start to feel mega frazzled about your path forward from here. Very good for helping you stay in the now and helping you to fill that cup! Recharge your batteries with Botswana Agate!

4. Amethyst - The High Priestess

I love Amethyst for a violet flame transmutation Saint Germain kind of vibe.

Meditate with your amethyst and visualise yourself in the crystal, with the violet flame around you transmuting all the old and making way for the new.

Amethyst is also great for connecting with your inner knowing which makes making plans and moving forward all that much easier.

5. Tektite - The Star

A little out of left field with this one, but it was like "Vix, Vix! Include me!" so I was like OK little guy!

Tektite is an interesting stone because it's super grounding but it also helps you to open up to the universe, to your ET guides, to the realisation and awe of just how massive everything is.

I mean, start Googling NASA pictures and your mind will be blown in no time. Sometimes when we are going through changes and transitions we are so zoomed in on our own stuff that we forget about the bigger picture. Tektites can  help you put it all in perspective.

The OA Tarot Spread

If you're not totally losing your shiz over the OA on Netflix you're not doing 2017 right.

Me and the bf binge watched it over a couple of nights after being totally hooked from the start. Interdimensional travel, Angels, a killer soundtrack and the best choreography you've ever seen in your life? I mean, OMG. Stop even reading this and just go watch it.

The story line revolves around our girl Prairie who has a near death experience and then gets kidnapped by a creepy doctor who wants to do experiments on her, and others like her.

So obvs, the idea of feeling "trapped" was the inspiration for this spread.

Making Magic with the Magician in 2017

2017 is a one year in numerology and in Tarot that makes it a Magician year! Well, it's also a Wheel of Fortune year, but I feel like the kick ass Magician vibe is really gonna be on the front line this year. 

The Magician is such an incredible archetype and I'm so excited about embodying the Harry Potter within this year! :D

So we have all this amazing new beginnings, manifesting and magic energy floating around in the air this year, what are you gonna do with it? I've put together 5 tips to help you really connect with your inner Magician this year!

1. gratitude is literally everything

If you're not happy with what you already have, having new things isn't going to make you happy either.

How many times do you manifest something cool but don't even take stock of it because you're too busy manifesting the next thing?

Being grateful doesn't mean you stop setting goals and trying to achieve your dreams, it's about being grateful for all the dreams that have already come true.

2. Be conscious of your feelings

You do not need to be a shiny, positive, unicorn riding, glitter throwing light being every single moment of every single day to do good magic.

It's helpful to just try to be conscious and aware of how you're feeling.

If you feel like you need a couch day to be miserable, take it, but take it with the intention of looking after yourself when you're feeling down, rather than "I'm going to the couch FOREVER because everything sucks." Being conscious of your feelings and taking time off when you need it is actually pretty high vibe right?

3. Ritual

Ritual is awesome for manifesting and making magic.

You can visualise until you're blue in the face, but sometimes writing down what you want, lighting a candle or doing a full on witchy ritual is what you really need to help set that intention and get it moving out into the physical world.

4. Find a magical path

Study Wicca or Hoodoo, become a Christian Witch, join a coven or just create your own magical path of the Lightworker. 

5. Manifest from the heart

Sometimes we can get really caught up in manifesting "stuff". A parking space, a pair of earrings, a book, a new job, a partner...

What you really want to do when you're making magic is peel it all back to how you want to feel, what your heart and soul desire and always manifest from your heart chakra.

Summer Solstice Tarot Spread x

Wahoo! It's Summer Solstice time in Australia! :D I'm currently on vacay and missing the Winter Solstice in the UK, if you're looking for a spread to help you through the chilly months click here.

The Summer Solstice is a great time to acknowledge and work with the light, the sun energy, the divine masculine and to stand in your own power gosh darn it!

This spread will help you navigate through this powerful time. As with all my spreads you can use Tarot, Oracle, Angel or whatever cards you have lying around. There is no real order to this spread, so feel free to start where it suits you.

CARD ONE: Your Source of light

If you're feeling a bit like OMG it's midsummer and I want to be enjoying myself and basking in the light and making some serious magic but how?? this card will tell you.

If you're already feeling mega magical - YAY, use this card as a compass pointing you towards where more light can be found.

I pulled the Queen of Wands - Boom! This reminds me that my source of light this solstice is within and in connecting with my own inner Queen of Wands!

CARD TWO: Keys to abundance

Oh man, don't you hate it when you lose your keys to abundance? D'oh! This card will remind you where you put them.

I pulled the six of cups, naaaw. My keys to abundance can be found in reconnecting with who I really am, and the things I used to really love.

CARD THREE: Reward yourself for this

We just don't reward ourselves for pretty much anything these days. This card will let you know where you've been going well and deserve a cheers!

I pulled the Devil for this card. This feels like it's time to throw a party for overcoming some fear and chains to negativity. Hoorah! Pizza and beer on me! :D

CARD FOUR: The Divine Masculine

This card can be read in many different ways depending on what the Divine Masculine means to you. It can be a message from the Divine Masculine, a message about connecting to this energy, or a message about how to work with and connect to the masculine energy within yourself.

I pulled the Lovers! Ooooh! This feels a little like falling in love with both masculine and feminine parts of myself...

CARD FIVE: How to create future success

When the sun shines down on you you can't go wrong. So what do you need to do to harness the sun's power and create future success in your life?

I pulled the Ace of Pentacles, and this feels like a message about how important it is to acknowledge the small successes, and connect to the abundance already in my life, the pennies in my purse and the food in my fridge. :)

Karmic Cycles Complete with the Ten of Swords

The Ten of Swords is a pretty creepy looking card.

I mean, a dude with ten swords in his back? Some serious shizzle has gone down here peeps.

In this episode of "scary tarot cards" we're gonna look at what this card is really all about, and help you to see the positive aspects of this card so that when it pops up in your daily draw you're all good, and when your querent freaks the eff out you can help them down off the ceiling quick sticks.

Karmic Cycles

I love this card when it pops up to let us know that karmic cycles are now complete. If you've been struggling with something for ages, hanging onto a path that doesn't serve you, dealing with some heavy relationship stuff, when you see this card, know that you have done your part.

There is nothing left for you to do. You can now walk away knowing your job is complete. 

If you've been going through a difficult time you can be sure that when you see this card the end is near and soon you'll be moving into a new energy.

Tens = Completion

Tens are the number of completion.

When you see the Ten of Swords you can start looking forward to the new energy that's coming for you, but don't get too excited just yet! You still have some ten energy to hang out in for a while, otherwise you would've pulled an Ace right?

Tens for me are all about feeling the feelings as the beautiful Louise Androlia would say.

Tens are about tying up lose ends, getting your affairs in order.

Moving out of your place, quitting your job, setting intentions for change and generally getting through that last month of school.

Get prepped, great things are coming, but stay in the completion energy until you are totally ready.

Do not resuscitate

I find this card comes up a lot for people who have been putting up with situations for way too long.

You know, giving people (who probably don't deserve them) extra chances, giving that job six more months even though it's mega soul destroying. It's the guy who cheats on you so many times and you keep taking him back. 

I see this a lot for people who are trying to "fix" things that are done. People who are trying to resuscitate something that is dead. A relationship, job, situation, lifestyle that is killing you. Change your ways babe, let dead things lie and move on.

When this card comes up it's a big, big message from the universe that whatever you're holding onto is done.

You can try to ignore all the signs to move on, but eventually you're gonna have to let that coffin drop. Don't be clutching it when it does.

I'm done!

It can be super hard to see this card when you're asking about a relationship, especially something you really want to see manifest, or something you want to keep.

Know that the Ten of Swords isn't here to take anything away from you, it's here to clear and complete the energy of what you're currently in so that you can find new love, with someone new or in a new way and a new energy with someone from the past.
