What I learned from my 40 day social media break

I know many of you have been following, or rather not following my 40 days off social media experiment and so I wanted to sit down and share with you what I learned in the hopes that maybe it will help you think about your own social media usage.

Maybe it will inspire you to also take 40 days off or change the way you use socials. Maybe this post will help you better understand the people in your life who are constantly attached to their phones, or maybe it will make you think about the things you do give your power away to in your own life and take that power back!

So, Why did I take 40 days off social media?

I haven’t had a break from social media since I first signed up for MySpace. I was going to say Facebook, but actually, it started long before that! I dabbled a couple of times with taking weekends off, Sundays off and I did try to take a week off at one point before I went in for 40 days, but in the interest of transparency, I did look at my feeds more than a few times via my laptop during that time!

Anyway, that’s a long time to be on social media without a break and I was really starting to feel it.

I love social media. I love connecting with my community and friends on these platforms and I love finding new people and accounts. I’ve actually made some amazing lifelong friends from meeting on socials!

But as we are all only too aware these days, social media is a double edged sword.

As much as I was loving the connections and community, I was also starting to notice some negatives. I was spending more time on socials than I wanted to, not just posting for my biz and connecting in positive ways, but scrolling mindlessly and I was also become aware of just how much I fell into comparison and (self) judgement at times.

Cats don’t use social media and they seem pretty happy!

I also started to notice that when I spent too much time on socials my energy didn’t feel so good and my intuition didn’t feel so clear, and not just in the moment of scrolling or briefly afterwards, but longer term.

When I took time to meditate on that I could clearly see that social media was part of the problem. Not only was I picking up on waaaay too much of everyone else’s energy, it was also messing with my nervous system putting me in flight or flight mode and making me feel like I had to constantly be doing something – posting more, having a bigger or deeper impact, commenting more, just generally doing more.

And while I was still able to set some boundaries for myself (not using socials on the weekends for example), I knew I had to do something big before socials became a big problem.

Why 40 days?

40 days is a pretty magical amount of time.

Jesus went into the desert for 40 days where he was tempted by the devil.

40 days is considered the amount of time needed to break a habit and change your conscious mind.

In Kundalini Yoga we often do a specific kriya (set of movements) or meditation for 40 days to not only change a habit but also your destiny.

40 days is a long time, but it’s also not really. It’s achievable. It’s not like you’re signing yourself up for being off social media forever, but it’s also enough time to really get a break and notice the changes.

My findings

OK, enough rambling, so what actually happened when I took 40 days off social media?

I felt relieved.

While I was a little hesitant to put up that post that I was getting off socials for 40 days (meaning I had to go through it!), once the posts were up and the apps were deleted off my phone I actually just felt a deep sense of relief.

I played a lot of Homescapes.

With no social media or work email (I removed that off my phone a while ago!) on my phone, whenever I had nothing to do and picked up my phone, I played Homescapes. As of writing this I’m on level 3290 but although I’ve played it a lot, I can easily just play a few rounds and put my phone down again. I actually also find it really helps when my anxiety pops up to say hello. If you play too add me as a friend! :P

My business did not suffer.

There was actually one week where I sold more digital courses and kits than I had in ages! I stayed in contact with my newsletter subscribers and let them know about workshops and other offerings and while I know that social media is good for my business it was nice to know that people are still finding my work whether I’m posting constantly on socials or not.

Getting off socials also helped me to get clearer about my business, what I’m creating and how I want to show up in the world! I got loads of downloads and ideas about new offerings and workshops.

Time went slower.

When I posted I was back, one person commented saying that the time went quickly, but actually I felt like I was off social media for ages! If time feels like it’s moving too fast, take a break from socials and see if you feel the difference!

I enjoyed the moment.

Without thinking about posting on social media I found myself more present in the moment. Instead of thinking – I have to get photos of this for social media, I was much more able to just be. I still took photos, but they were for me, my friends and family, not for the whole world.

Spent more time walking on the beach than taking photos on the beach, except this one. 😅

I found some deeper self-love.

Without trying to take selfies for socials or scrolling through and judging myself against a bajillion selfies and pics of stunning humans, I found myself letting go of some old, outdated beliefs I had around my physical appearance.

I read more books.

Less time scrolling = more time reading spiritual books and romance novels! I fell in love with so many incredible authors and stories which lit me up so much more than scrolling does!

I realised that social media wasn’t my only problem.

Sometimes when you take away what you think is the problem, you realise what’s really going on. Being addicted to scrolling (or anything) is often just a symptom of something else. I did a lot of shadow work, healing, deep diving and contemplation and uncovered some prickly truths and hidden gems I really needed to see but couldn’t until I removed the obstacle.

I didn’t miss it at all, until the end.

I actually didn’t really miss social media at all until about a week before I was due to come back. At one point I wasn’t sure I ever wanted to get back on socials, but during that last week I had a little buzz of excitement at the idea of getting back on social media, a buzz that I haven’t had in ages, and now I’m feeling more excited than ever to post and share and connect!

I’m making changes moving forward.

Right now, I’m not planning to put the apps back on my phone permanently. I think I’ll put Instagram back on when I have workshops or other offerings to share as posting on stories can be a good way to let people know about those since the algorithm doesn’t always put things in people’s feeds, but I don’t plan to be posting on stories otherwise. I’m also going to be posting like the “geriatric millennial” that I am, and stick to just posting photos for a while and see what happens.

And of course, that’s not set in stone. I evolve and change my mind all the time. But if you do see me posting my breakfast, lunch and dinner every day on stories, feel free to send me a DM and ask me if I’m doing okay! :P

In conclusion:

Take time to smell the roses!

Wow, I didn’t mean to turn this into an essay, but here’s the conclusion – getting off social media for 40 days was awesome. It gave me so much clarity, space, peace and really helped me reconnect with myself again.

I’m not going to leave social media. I love being connected to my soul fam all over the world. But I’m not going to be on social media as much as I used to be, and I’m going to take longer breaks whenever I feel called.

I feel more empowered, confident and conscious about using social media. I feel like I can move forward with social media as a tool I can use for connection and for my business and it no longer has any power over me!

The world doesn’t end when you take time off social media, in fact, it may just help you to see the magic in the world that’s right in front of you.

With love,

New Moon Magic - 33 ways to work with the energy of the new moon

New Moon Magic

New moon energy is powerful shiz!

I like working with the Full Moon for releasing, exploring my stuff, doing some deep work and big magic. On the New Moon though, I’m more about taking stock, setting goals and putting it out there.

Everyone works with moon energy differently, so it's really important for you to find what works best for you.

I'm just sharing with you here some of the stuff that works for me.

Personally, I always wait until after the New Moon has hit before I start using it’s magic (although I start to think about my intentions earlier!), as I feel that it’s much more powerful.

I go with the three days after rule that says you can work with the new moon energy for up to three days after the moon is new.

So if I miss the new moon, I don’t freak out, I just do my new moon-y stuff the next day. :D But you can work with the New Moon however it feels best to you.

There's no reason at all why you can't use this list anytime you're wanting to call something in.

If you want to come and partake in some New Moon Magic with other peeps, head over to the Spiritual Journey Pitstop on Facebook where every new and full moon we get together and give each other’s magic a mega boost of love and light!

OK, let’s get into this listicle!

What is a lightworker?

What is a lightworker?

Last week one of the #highvibejuly instachallenge prompts was #lightworker.

So many people were like "I don't know if I am one", or "I had to Google Lightworker" and so I thought I'd pop down some of my personal thoughts on what a Lightworker is, just to help y'all out if you have nfi what one is, or whatever.

First of all, I just wanna preface this post by saying that if you don't resonate with the term "lightworker", no problemo. Some people like it, some people don't. No biggie.

Personally I like it, and so I use it. That is in no way any disrespect to those who call themselves shadow workers, duality workers, or people who just effing hate labels full stop.

I have seen a lot of hating online towards those who call themselves Lightworkers because there is this idea that we're ignoring our shadow, ignoring the darkness and just dancing around in sequins and pigtails throwing glitter at everything. Which, although sounds kind of wonderful in a way, is not exactly what it's about. For me anyway...

What is the definition of "lightworker"?

We all have different definitions, and yours may not be the same as mine. Just like when someone calls themselves "spiritual" it has like a bajillion different meanings to everyone.

A lightworker is just anyone who wants to make a difference and wants to make the world better.

Being a lightworker is about helping others, helping the planet and basically being a nice person.

Some people say you have to be "spiritual" to be a lightworker. I don't know about you, but I've met some damn fine people shining bright and helping the planet who do not resonate with spirituality at all.

You do not have to have a spiritual job or even be spiritual at all to be a lightworker. Some of the coolest lightworkers I know are total Agnostics.

I LOVE this definition of "light"! x

I LOVE this definition of "light"! x

How do you know if you're a lightworker?

Here's a lightworker test:

1. Do you try to be a nice person?

2. Do you want to make a difference?

3. Do you want to help this planet?

If you said yes to the above, you are a lightworker.

Always doing the lightwork. x

Always doing the lightwork. x

The lightworker mission

"Hey Vix, you're cool with going down and helping planet earth for a while right?"

"Sure, no problem! Earth is heaps pretty and I love hanging out with all my bezzies in human form! :D"

*Gets to Earth like OMG what is happening down here?*

A lot of lightworkers feel a huge amount of pressure to work out what exactly we're supposed to be doing and to get it done like yesterday. There never feels like enough time to complete the mission, we never actually really know what the mission is (apart from "to help") and so it can feel pretty daunting and frustrating at times

Connecting with your own inner guidance can give you a much better idea about what you're meant to be doing...

It's important to remember that just being a big bright light, being nice, standing up for injustice and generally doing your part to be a good human is pretty much enough.

What's the deal with lightworkers and shadow work?

Shadow work is basically about working with the duality of both your light and dark

Although nothing brings me more joy than pulling Angel cards and sending love and light to the world, I am very aware that I am human and so I have an ego. As much as I try to bring light into my life, I know darkness exists, within me and around me. I just prefer to focus on the light. That doesn't mean I'm ignoring my shadow. It means when I discover something I don't like about myself or within myself I work on it, but I don't dwell on it.

I prefer to put my focus on what lights me up, and that's why I like the term lightworker.

Being a lightworker is not about being perfect. It's about choosing the light and choosing to do what's right and working on your stuff.

(Again, no disrespect if you prefer the term shadow worker and feel like it suits what you do. We're all doing the same thing just in the way that resonates for us right? Fist-bump)

Just in case you forget. x

Just in case you forget. x

Lightwork

When I do readings I'm doing lightwork.

When I'm sending reiki or love and light to others I'm doing lightwork.

When you meditate you're doing lightwork.

When you light a candle and pray for peace you're doing lightwork.

When you are nice to the person who makes your coffee, you're doing lightwork.

Angelic + Starseed connections

Many lightworkers also resonate with the idea that they are either incarnated angels, earth angels or starseeds (and we can talk about if these things are even different later).

In a nutshell an incarnated angel is someone who has spent their time pre-this life hanging out in the angelic realms in angel form.

In a nutshell a starseed is someone who has spent previous lifetimes and perhaps their soul also originates from another planet.

For many people the lightworker mission is not just about "helping out" but also making sure the planet survives, spreading peace, gaining information and understanding to take back to our own planets later, research assignments, and spreading love and light to help Earth evolve into it's next chapter in which we're all good to each other.

Lighting up! x

So what do you think? Are you a lightworker? What's your definition of a lightworker

Eleven Ways to Shift Spiritual Comparison and Out-Spiriting

Spiritual Competition, Comparison or Out-Spiriting as my mates Lucy & Jo from Higher Selfie would call it, is freaking rife right now in the spiritual communities and it's a major bummer

Spiritual Comparison has so many different faces, but for the most part it just describes anything that gets you into a vibe of comparing your spiritual journey with someone else's.

It could be feeling like someone who's opened their third eye is more enlightened or spiritual than you are when you're still struggling to get any flippin' guidance at all. When the spiritual peeps you follow on Instagram have like a thousand Tarot decks when you've got one deck of oracle cards (I seriously know someone who literally has two thousand). Maybe you're starting a spiritual blog and checking out your fave woo woo Tweeters and feeling so many jelly donuts because they have way more followers than you think you ever will... and in the Tarot community it's super easy to feel a lot of feelings about the success of other readers, especially when you're having a slow month.

Just like with everything in spirituality, or hey, life in general, your version of spiritual comparison is going to be different.

For the most part I believe that when we find ourselves getting into judgement and jealousy there's a lot to learn for us about ourselves and our own journey. Most people who won't shut up about their awesome meditation with Archangel Orion are just super excited and want to share their experience and want you to experience it too! They don't mean to harsh your vibe...

But then there are people out there who get their kicks Out-Spiriting others. Old school Tarot Readers who belittle New Age Hipsters for reading with Angel Tarot. Shadow-workers who call what light-workers are doing "crap" (woah Nellie!). There are spiritualistas who roll their eyes at you for eating cheesy nachos, because like, OMG everyone should be vegan if they are spiritual (I wish I could be vegan, but my lifestyle and enjoyment of cheesy nachos can't handle it, maybe one day), and then there are those chics at yoga class who look over at you like OMG you can't even do tree pose - LOLZ. :S

This is something that has been in my face a lot over the last few weeks, and I know many of you are feeling it too, so I thought I'd jot down a few things to remember when you feel like your spiritual journey is similar to sitting in a wheelbarrow being pushed by some drunk guy while everyone else is riding about in a glittery limo pulled by unicorns.

Does Out-Spiriting make you feel like this guy in the Four of Swords from the Unicorn Tarot? x

Does Out-Spiriting make you feel like this guy in the Four of Swords from the Unicorn Tarot? x

You can totally un-follow or hide stuff that annoys you

If someone in particular is getting on your goaticorn (you know, like a unicorn but a goat) you can totally just hide them off your feed, unfollow them for a while or just unfollow them forever. Even if you don't know why they are getting to you.

Sometimes we just don't vibe with people who are doing the same things we're doing and that's totally fine. There are a lot of woo woo people coming out of the closet and onto social media with a lot of different vibes and messages. If someone is making you feel bad about yourself and your journey, hide that shit and search out the accounts that feel more loving and better for where you're at.

Don't hang around with people who make you feel bad

It's easy to hide stuff online so you don't have to see it, but IRL (that's in real life for those of you who didn't hang out in chat rooms in the 90's) things are different. You can't just stop going to Yoga because someone scoffed at your downward dog. Well, you can, but you really shouldn't have to. If you have woo woo mates who enjoy Out-Spiriting each other maybe don't hang around with those people as much.

You don't have to resonate with everyone and everything

Just because someone is a super famous spiritual leader or hot blogger or whatever it doesn't mean their message has to be for you. I follow a few people that I really admire and even though their work doesn't totally resonate with where I'm at in my journey right now I can totally see the value in it for others. I don't have to resonate and click like on all their posts to totally respect their work.

I think a lot of us are like - oh I didn't vibe with that one thing that person said, I can't follow them any more. Well that's totally your choice, but you're never gonna resonate 100% with anyone, not even yourself! Woah! Search out the people you resonate with most of the time and it's all good.

Go rogue

Forget everything you've ever learned about woo woo and just close your eyes and listen. Your spiritual journey has nothing to do with books, courses and gurus. It's about you and your own soul. While all this outside stuff can totally help you on your journey it's only supposed to be a way to help you connect with yourself and your own guidance, it's not the answer, it's just a way to help you find the answers you already have!

Tell them you're not playing the game

If you have a blog or social media account tell everyone you're not playing. Just be like: I'm totally #SpiritualComparisonFree! (Thanks Lucy for letting me mashup your hashtag!)

Look in the mirror

When stuff comes up that makes us feel shit about our own journey it's super easy to go straight into "that person is a jerk" mode. Sometimes that person is a jerk, but it's also super valuable to ask yourself what they triggered in you and take a look at that.

Maybe all those Yoga bunnies are bringing up your own stuff about getting healthy. Maybe the guy that speaks his truth pisses you off because you really struggle to be authentic and have some of your own throat chakra stuff to clear. Maybe everyone getting a book deal makes you feel like a loser because you haven't even tried. Whatever comes up is important to consider. Sometimes people are just jerks, but even jerks can bring spiritual lessons!

Don't go down to their level

Don't react to Out-Spiriting with more Out-Spiriting.

I learned this the hard way when I started getting massively trolled on the Tarot forums. Hard-core Tarot traditionalists are very rarely (I know some of you are out there, stop hiding!) New Age Hipster fans, and that's totally OK because I didn't actually start New Age Hipster for those old school traditionalists, I started it for you, that was the whole point!

Sticking up for yourself and speaking your truth is super important, saying it 26 different ways to people who've already left the building is not so important. Know when you're chatting to closed ears and move on with your life. Leave that group and don't worry about those guys.

Have a moan

K, so this isn't very high vibe advice and I appreciate some people might be like - OMG Vix I expected better from you. But seriously, when you've been Out-Spirited sometimes it's better to talk about it than keep it all inside!

If you don't have a woo woo mate who gets it to FB chat with you're always welcome over at the Spiritual Journey Pitstop to talk about this stuff. We've been chatting about it this week and it's been awesome. We don't always agree 100% on stuff, but we're always supportive of each other and that just makes it way more interesting, awesome and conducive to everyone's spiritual growth! Whooop!

Remember everyone is on their own journey

This is seriously my favourite mantra. When faced with Out-Spiriters or even well-meaners who get under your skin remember that we're all here to learn different stuff, to experience different things and that's OK.

Some people are probably even here on divine missions to be Out-Spiriters just to give the rest of a us a chance to work on our stuff, so we should really be thanking them! :P

Live in the now man

Some days you need to switch off from being "spiritual" and just go to the pub or something. Talk to people who aren't woo woo. Talk about work, relationships, politics, environmental issues, what night the bin goes out, share your life goals and dreams, gossip about hot celebrities or sit in a cafe and just check out people's outfits for fashion inspo.

Your spiritual journey is a huge part of your life, but it's not the only part. You came here to be human, so like, focus on that too!

Forgive Yourself

If you've Out-Spirited people in the past whether knowingly or not, forgive yourself. Let it go and just set an intention to try not to do it so much.

Sometimes when we are being jerks we don't even realise. I'm sure at some point someone out there has felt Out-Spirited because of something we've all said or done, intentionally or not.

Let's just all try really hard not to Out-Spirit each other.

Let's share our journeys with the intention of sharing the love and knowledge rather than looking cool or enlightened. Hey, we're all human and it's still going to happen, but let's try our best to be excellent to each other.

With love, light and huge spiritual community group hugs,

Vix

21 Ways to Raise your Vibration!

There’s a lot of heaviness out there in the cosmos just now and it’s super hard work staying high vibe when all you feel like doing is crying at the news coverage and hiding under the doona for the rest of the week.

I think it’s super important to be informed and to do what you can, but there’s also a point where we need to stop feeling emo and sorry for ourselves and start shining our lights again. Even brighter than before!

It sounds shit I know. Why should we feel amazing about our lives when there is so much bad stuff happening? But the more of us that are on this planet with a high vibe, the better it is for everyone. Crying into a pizza and not getting your blog post done helps no one.

You might not be able to physically do much at times, but by staying high vibe and doing all the stuff your soul came here to do, you are making a huge difference.

Never underestimate the impact your high vibe has on this planet!

Keep one eye on the news, keep signing petitions to change things, donate money to good causes when you can, be kind as much as poss to as many as you can and take whatever other action feels good and right to you right now.

And when you're all good deed-ed out, try these:

Breathe

Sometimes all you can do is breathe. Breathing is awesome. We all breathe so high up these days, bring it doooooown. Breath with me now. Breathe in, keep breathing, keep breathing in, keep breathing in, now hold it for a second at the top, hold it, hold it! Now let it out. Ah, don't you feel so much better? :D

Sing

Nobody ever stayed low-vibe at a sing-a-long. Even if you're too cool to actually sing a long, you can't help but be raised up by singing voices!

Dance

OK, this isn't a musical, but musicals are pretty high vibe. How about you dance to something like this

PATS

Animals love pats... mostly. Find one and cuddle it. If it doesn't want to be cuddled don't be offended, just sit near it and soak up it's awesomeness. Cats are best for this. :D

Hug

Hug someone. If you don't have anyone to hug, hug a tree, or ask your angels to swoop down for one

Tea

It's just awesome.

Watch

Binge on your favourite TV show or movie. Watch anything that raises your vibe. I like Charmed, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Back to the Future, Xanadu, Pretty in Pink and Twilight. :D

Listen

OMG cranking your fave tracks never fails to raise the vibe. Make yourself a high vibration playlist on Spotify (or wherever!) and add ONLY songs that make you freak out with funness.

Smell

Literally smell something amazing. I like burning oils in my oil burner thingy. Maybe you wanna get some real life flowers or wear your favourite perfume even on a night in alone!

Wear

Wear clothes that make you feel high vibe. Stay away from too many darks emo colours. Everyone loves their black skinny jeans, but can we team them with some sequins perhaps? Sequins everywhere! :D

Meditate

Find a guided meditation that will help you raise your vibe - I love Diana Cooper + Doreen Virtue for high vibe meditations, but you can use anything! Even just listening to some chill out music and closing your eyes will do the trick!

Smile

Even if you're on the tube right now and will look like a total dick. Do it anyway! :D

Pizza

I mean come on. It's pizza. If you don't do pizza, whatever your personal pizza is.

The Beach

The beach is a great place to get high vibe. If you can't literally go, visualise your happy place

Lights

Pop on some fairy lights and you'll wonder how you could ever be sad again.

Corny one, but yes, reading something inspiring or fun will totally raise your vibe. I highly recommend Sweet Valley High, Baby Sitter's Club and my novel 1983 (once it's out! #manifest!).

Phone a Friend

Call someone for a chit chat. No Facebook chats here folks, make it the real deal, where you actually talk. On a phone. Remember when before the internet or mobile phones??! :-O

Tidy

Urgh, like that's high vibe? Well, your vibe will be a lot higher once you're done! You know it's true. #SorryNotSorry

Write

Journal out your thoughts, write about stuff, write letters to Angels, write letters to those passed over loved ones, write about your past and send messages to your future!

Walk

Go for a walk outside. If it's raining or freezing go anyway! :D

Workout

Yoga is always good, but you'd be amazed at how high you can get from 80's workouts. You'll be sore for days, but it's fun!

And then have a bonus one of an early night! You've deserved it after all that fun and vibe raising! Phew! :D

With love, light and high vibes,

How to be Spiritual on a Budget

There are times in our lives when we are abundant in love, but a little cash poor. Perhaps you are waiting for your abundance truck to come in, or maybe you are in a crazy awesome mega money flow. Whatever your situation in the bank, getting a good deal can still feel darn good!

So for those of you out there who love a discount as much as I do, I thought I'd share with you some of my favourite free things and super cheap ways to keep your spiritual cup full, even when you are living off beans and white bread.

Inspiration for your ears

There are sooooo many free spiritual podcasts on iTunes! There are loads of free Gabrielle Bernstein lectures to listen to and my personal fave - The Psychic Teachers. And if you check out our neighbourhood Passion Junkie Fab's podcast you might even find an interview with me on there! :-O I could write a whole post about podcasts, because I love so many of them, but just go check them out for yourself and see what you find! There is soooo much totally free spiritual goodness to be had on iTunes!

Free Meditations

YouTube is so good for free meditations! I LOVE Neil Cooper's Meditations and also came across the lovely Ros recently who has really seriously awesome Angel Meditations! Hay House Presents also have an awesome playlist of meditations featuring totally free meditations with gorgeous and amazing peeps like Doreen Virtue and James Van Praagh!

Free Yoga

If you are looking for some amazing free Yoga videos on YouTube you can't go past Yoga with Adriene!

CRYSTALS

Don't think you have to spend a small fortune on a cute necklace just because a certain stone is resonating with you right now. Part of the reason I wear chip bracelets all the time is because they are uber cheap! But even cheaper are regular plain old tumble stones. Pop them in your pocket, or even hide them in your bra! You can grab tumble stones from any new age shop, gift shop or even some museums have them too! Etsy have loads and lots of peeps are popping them into special bags to make searching for what you need a whole lot easier!

These babies cost between just 25p and a couple of quid each! x

Cheap books

There are a few ways I get my super cheap spiritual books. When something comes on my radar I check out Amazon and go straight to the used prices. If you don't mind a few dog ears and marks on your cover you can get amazing things for as little as ONE penny! I'm not even joking! Plus postage, but that still only brings your book up to £2.81! I've found books on healing, Doreen Virtue books for 1p and there's even some brand new books for only 22p! But buying second hand is good for the planet, good for the trees and good for your pocket too! Add books to your wishlist on Amazon and then check back later because the prices often go even further down!

If you really do prefer your books brand new, or you can't find what you want second hand, check out Wordery and Book Depository. They ship anywhere in the world for FREE and often have cheaper prices too! I just bought a book on Wordery for £7.16 that had a recommended retail of £16.99! BARGAIN ALERT!!

Charity shops often have spiritual books tucked away in their non-fiction sections. Just this week I scored a Marianne Williamson book for £1! A bargain and it helps charities too! YAY!

This awesome book was only £1.61! OMG! YES! And it's a pretty good read too!

FREE WEEKLY READINGS

Head over to Doreen Virtue's channel for an Angel Reading or hit up the New Age Hipster channel! Even though these readings aren't totally personalised to you, you'll find that certain words will grab you, some cards will feel like they are just for you and they will also help you make sense of the energies around you. Great for you if you can't grab a personal reading just now.

FREE PERSONALISED READINGS

Many readers, such as myself, offer occasional giveaway readings, and other random freebies so make sure you follow the readers you like on InstagramFacebook and Twitter so you are the first to see when these things happen. Every time I do a deck review I ask my FB peeps for a question so I can include in my video how the cards work for a reading. You can see one I did for the lovely Gracy! The reading starts at 17:17.

Cheap Decks

There is a lot of talk about second hand decks being bad juju. I was on that bandwagon myself, but after I found The Angel Oracle Deck for just 29p on Amazon I changed my tune about that. The deck had barely been touched and I do totally think that deck was meant to come to me! Recycling is super important these days, so if you see an awesome second hand deck don't freak, you are just doing some spiritual recycling! Also check Ebay for a bargain deck too - especially hard to find decks! I got the Art Nouveau Tarot for about £20 on Ebay a little while ago and it's now going for £75! Keep your eyes peeled for a bargain!

Not a bad for 29p! Just one of the cards in the Angel Oracle deck by Ambika Wauters. x

Candles and other bits

We can't all afford to kit out our altar with stuff from the local Crystal store. I often buy scarves and tablecloths from charity shops or Etsy! Incense is pretty cheap, you can even check pound stores to find it even cheaper. I found this cool picture of Mother Mary for a couple of quid in a pound store! Don't worry about spending loads on candles either, a few home brand tea lights or a couple of white pillars from IKEA can look just as awesome as anything you spent a bucket-load on! Again check out charity stores for brick-a-brack bits like candle-holders! And if you want some images to stick around the place, save them from Pinterest and then print them off at work (haha, I didn't tell you to do that! :-P ) and stick them around your spiritual areas!

You can literally spend NO money and still be a total spirit junkie these days, and for just a couple of quid you can get yourself a deck and some books!

May the metaphysical force be with you bargain hunters. Please come over to Facebook and share your bargains with us all too!

Love, light and bargain shopping!

2015 New Years resolutions and GRATITUDE!

Glitter Lips from www.luvandido.com x OK, I know by now you've probably read a gazillion blog posts about New Years 2015 and if one more person tells you "OMG 2015 IS GOING TO BE THE BEST YEAR EVEEEEEEEEER!" you might just about have enough energy to nod a bit. But this post is going to be different! I think...

First of all, I just wanted to say THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone who has supported New Age Hipster this year. If you liked the FB page, if you commented and got involved, if you've been following me on IG, reading my weekly readings or watching my YouTube videos, or even if you've just stumbled upon this post today - THANK YOU for being part of this. I never really thought that people would actually like or resonate with what I have to say, or that anyone would even pay me to read their cards, and I have so much gratitude for every single one of you who've I've had the joy of connecting with through my intuitive readings this year. I've loved hearing your stories, shedding some light in dark places and most of all, giving you some empowering words of advice and mostly of all, telling you what you already knew deep down so that you know you're on the right path.

OMG, I swear I have spent more time prepping and planning and getting into a good headspace for this year than any other year EVER. Which is cool, and I'm actually loving getting organised and working out what I actually want from this year and feeling like amazing things can happen! But as a bit of an introvert, it's also been kind of exhausting. So tonight, while all you party girls and glam guys are out drinking and dancing, I'm going to be at home eating home cooked Sweet & Sour (the BF's mum's recipe and it's AMAZING!!), watching Frozen, having a beer and generally dorking out.

What I guess I'm trying to say is that even though there is this amazing buzz around about how 2015 is going to be prosperous, abundant, the sparkly and glittery year you've been waiting your whole life for just take a deep breath and put it in perspective. Yes, this coming year does have a 'make all your dreams come true' vibe, but so does every year if you want it to. Collectively a lot of us are much more in a space now where we want to turn away from the old outdated 'life models' that no longer serve us individually or as a planet. We don't want to run the rat race any more, we don't want to give all our money to big corporations who don't pay their people decently. We want to actually make a difference on this planet and stepping into 2015 feels like a chance to do it! But it's not like you are going to wake up tomorrow with a six figure business, the perfect family and a house that looks like you Pinterested it.

So if you wake up on the first of January 2015 feeling hungover, or sorry for yourself, or if you spend the whole day watching bad TV or pigging out don't see it as failure. You have 364 more days to make 2015 the best year of your life. Don't freak out about the pressure of making 2015 the best year yet...

You have every day of your life to make this the best life of your existence!

OMG that's so totally deep! :-D

And if you are feeling like you need some extra guidance as we head into this spanking new year you can visit my Etsy store: www.etsy.com/uk/shop/NewAgeHipsterStore and you can find out more about what to expect from one of my readings by checking out the Readings page.

I'm sending you all so much love, light and sparkly 2015 vibes!

Cosmic Tarot - Norbert Losche

Sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion

As promised here's my little story about how I re-found my faith in the Universe last week at TK Maxx. So I'm in TK Maxx. I like to shop there sometimes because I figure it's kind of like the clothes version of the Island of Misfit Toys and I totally resonate with that. So anyway, I'm looking around and I see this t-shirt. It's white and a little sparkly so it catches my eye - "Sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion" it says. I immediately love it, but it takes me a second before I realise it's actually a line from one of my all time favourite creepy time travel movies - Donnie Darko.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=accEKtBebaU

I'm moving house soon so I've been trying not to spend money on anything I don't truly need, but I tried it on anyway, took a photo of myself in the change room and posted it on social media (because that's what we do these days, crazy huh?). I was shopping on my own and it was like I needed some kind of validation from someone that it was OK if I got this shirt, even though I'm meant to be being frugal right now.

sometimes i doubt your commitment to sparkle motion new age hipster

So I do the 'right thing' and I put it back on the hanger. Checking my iPhone in Waterstones while buying a copy of Clockwork Princess (OMG I LOVE THESE BOOKS!!) revealed that people liked it a lot and thought I should get it! That was enough validation for me. I was going to get the shirt because I loved it and maybe I could scrimp on something else this month. I mean I only spent £6 on a book (if you use click and collect at Waterstones you can save £2 on almost everything!!) I just needed to go and look in Lush first...

Suddenly I'm on the bus and I look out the window - Nooooooo! I forgot to go back for my shirt! I get on my phone and start Googling frantically to find it online. NOWHERE had it online. I get home, dump the shopping and run to the laptop, just in case something was up with my phone and I can buy it online on the LAPTOP! NOTHING!

I consider walking back into town. I consider getting up early to go back into town. I get totally sad about the shirt maybe not being there when I do get back into town and I'm like FREAKING OUT about nothing but a t-shirt... but I LOVED that t-shirt! How could I have been so stupid not to have just bloody bought it?

OK, so I finally calm down, I'm visualising light all around the shirt in the store (Yes, I realise this is sounding nuts) and I ask the angels to look after it for me. I ask them if this is my shirt please keep it safe for me.

I'm still kind of freaking out and I have this idea out of nowhere to use my necklace as a pendulum. I pull it off and I ask it for a positive and a negative.

Will my shirt be there tomorrow afternoon? YES.

Suddenly the freaked out energy lifted and I was like - Oh OK. It was like when you dread asking somebody for a favour or something and then you finally do it and they say - yes of course, don't be silly! And I managed to go back to my normal self and forget all about the shirt.

The next afternoon I'm storming through the mall to finally get my shirt! My thoughts are going crazy. I'm like - it's not going to be there. This is stupid. Don't get your hopes up. If it's there it's there. And then I'm like - no damnit, I did EVERYTHING right. I visualised, I dowsed, I talked to angels, this shirt HAS to be there!

So I go in and search the rack where it was. Nothing. Told you so, says the voice. This is stupid.

I search other random racks where I know it's not going to be. Now you are being really stupid. Get over it. It's just a shirt. What's wrong with you?

I search the first rack again. You already searched there. It's not here. Why would you even think it would be here anyway?

I feel totally deflated. Let down by the Universe YET AGAIN. Why does this always happen?! Why do other people manifest houses and millions of dollars and I can't even manifest a T-SHIRT?!

I walk over to the sale section in some kind of last ditch effort. Maybe someone put it there by mistake. It's not going to be there. That shirt was way too cool to be in the sale section.

And then I find it.

I'm looking right at it.

"Sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion" it says with a sale tag dangling off the side.

And I'm staring at it. And it's like the Universe is winking at me, or grinning at me through this awesome turn of phrase on this t-shirt

*

I've been working on manifesting a couple of really big things. I wrote a YA novel about time travel and I want to do this New Age Hipster gig and get paid for it. I've done the work and the visualisations and I know this is all going to happen one day. I know right now I'm just at that point somewhere between freaking out and finding the sale rack.

Love, light and good manifesting vibes,

Vix
