Beltane Tarot Spread and Ritual Ideas

Dancing around a bonfire naked is a classic Beltane move!

Beltane Blessings gorgeous souls!

On the opposite side of the wheel to Samhain is Beltane. Celebrated at the point where spring begins to move into summer, Beltane is a fiery, passionate, sexy festival that honours the warmth and growth of the earth.

Beltane is known as the “Great Rite” - the festival in which the God and the Goddess come together in sexual union and this is a fantastic time to look at how the masculine and feminine energies are working within you and in your life.

Celebrated with maypole and Morris dancing in England, with bonfires and naked dancing in Scotland (I will never forget my very first Beltane festival on Calton Hill in Edinburgh!), Beltane is also an auspicious time for witches and magical folk to become handfasted.

While Samhain is a time of deep honouring for the dead, Beltane is a festival of life, love and fertility. A powerful time for manifestation, but do think carefully about what you want to call in at this time as the energy is potent!

Beltane is a wonderful time for connecting with the earth, the land and the people you love.

A time of creativity in all forms, whether you are wanting to create new life, bring a new soul into your family, or work on creative projects, this is the perfect time to set some intentions, breathe into your own magic and remember you have the power to plant, grow and create, just like the earth does.

During Beltane the veil is also thin, and so it’s always wise to remember to practice energy protection at both these points in the wheel (and always!) as spirit gets a little busy at these times!

Also known as May Day, Beltane is traditionally celebrated on the 1st of May in the northern hemisphere and the 1st of November in the southern hemisphere.

The Beltane bonfires

Looking for some Beltane rituals?

As always, you can celebrate Beltane or any of the sabbats however you like. But here are some ideas that may be useful in helping you develop your own rituals.

Fire rituals

If you can’t get to a bonfire celebration near by, create your own fire rituals. Light a fire pit or some candles on your altar. Burn away the old as you give thanks for the new.

Get wild

Do something to let your inner wild child out. Dance naked, sleep under the stars, roll around in meadows, walk barefoot through mud, turn your phone off for a day, ignore all your calls and return to your roots. Connect with the wildness of nature and be as wild and free as the wildflowers.

Gather

Gather with friends, family and loved ones at a Beltane festival, for a picnic in the park, a backyard BBQ, a night out dancing or even just a pizza and a good summer movie. Enjoy the company of the people you really care about and let them know how much they mean to you. Share your gratitudes and hopes for the future.

Unite

Just as the God and Goddess are reconnecting at Beltane, do something to honour, balance and merge the God and Goddesses within you.

Journal on how you balanced you feel within yourself. Look for ways that you can bring the masculine (the push energy) and the feminine (the pull) into balance. How can you both show up in the physical world and give yourself time and space to work on your inner world?

Flower crowns

Flower crowns are the ultimate accessory for Beltane. Make or buy a flower crown and wear it with confidence like the incredible Faery queen you are.
