Spiritual Journey

Kundalini Yoga FAQs

So, what’s this Kundalini yoga thing all about, then?

Taking your first class, or thinking about it? Maybe you’ve been going to classes for a while but have questions. Hopefully they will be answered here!

🐍What actually is Kundalini yoga?

Kundalini yoga focuses on - you guessed it! Raising the Kundalini!

“Kundalini” has many different definitions and translations, but in a nutshell, it’s the divine creative energy that we are all born with. The Kundalini energy is the Shakti, the divine feminine creative power within each of us. This energy lies dormant in the spine until it is activated. It can be activated in many ways, but Kundalini yoga does an amazingly good job of safely and quickly raising the Kundalini energy.

When the Kundalini is activated in your root chakra it can then move through your chakras and creates a powerful connection between you (the finite) and universal consciousness (AKA God, the divine, the infinite).

Kundalini yoga uses mantra, chanting, breathwork, physical movement and meditation to make this happen.

And once you get it moving, Kundalini yoga can help it keep moving!

⚡I’ve heard that Kundalini Yoga is “intense”, how do I know if I’m ready for it?

Great question! Kundalini yoga can be intense, but not always, and you are always in complete control in class as to how far you want to go. If any of the practices feel like too much in the moment, you can always pull back and take a break.

Kundalini yoga moves energy and that can be an uncomfortable experience, especially if you’re not used to it. Kundalini yoga is called the “yoga of awareness” and so it may bring things to light. It’s not unusual to cry during a class or to feel other emotions coming up. You might feel angry (especially if you’re holding a posture for a long time!), or you may feel completely blissed out and in love with yourself and the universe! Every class hits different. Sometimes Kundalini yoga just makes you feel better, and then you go on with your day with a lighter step!

People are usually ready for Kundalini yoga when those nudges start coming. If you’re suddenly seeing Kundalini content popping up on your social media, noticing Kundalini books in bookshops, seeing flyers on noticeboards, or if you’re just curious about Kundalini yoga in any way that can be a nudge that it’s time to check it out!

Kundalini yoga is not for everyone. It requires a willingness to sit with yourself. Sometimes in some unusual positions.😅

However, if you have done some personal and/or spiritual development work already and you’re keen to go deeper within yourself to heal, clear and release some old junk as well as activate your soul, heart, mind and personal power, these practices can be very powerful.

🥨Do I have to be flexible or fit to do Kundalini yoga?

Nope.

There are no levels in Kundalini yoga and you are always welcome to come and modify as needed. Most teachers (including me!) will give you modifications.

Not everyone is a pretzel. I’m not a pretzel either but I still get so much out of the practices even when I modify them to work with my body.

It’s said that 80% of the work in Kundalini yoga is just showing up. So even if you just sit in easy pose the whole time, you’re still getting a lot of benefit! 😅

🎶What’s with all the chanting at the start?

Most Kundalini yoga classes start with two mantras:

Ong namo guru dev namo

This roughly translates as “I bow to the divine wisdom within” or “I bow to the invisible guru.” Guru meaning the one who removes the darkness.

This mantra sets the intention for class, connects you to your higher self, inner and divine wisdom.

Then we chant:

Aad Guray Nameh
Jugaad Guray Nameh
Sat Guray Nameh
Siri Guru Devay Nameh

This roughly translates as:

I bow to the Primal Wisdom, I bow to the Wisdom through the Ages, I bow to the True Wisdom, I bow to the great, unseen Wisdom.

This is a protection mantra which creates safe space and a shield of light around you as you practice. You can find out more about this in my Shield of Light workshop!

🧘‍♀️What actually happens in a class?

Usually we chant, then do some physical warm ups and a physical kriya. Kriyas are movement sets that are done to achieve a certain specific outcome. You can think of them like HIIT workouts for the physical and energy bodies, or like spells using the movements of the body instead of magickal tools.

Then you get a nice lie down for a bit and before you sit up for a final meditation. This varies, but it can involve chanting, mudra and/or some simple physical movements.

Then we finish with the Long Time Sun song. This is a blessing we sing to ourselves, for ourselves, for each other and the world. Cool fact about this song is it was written by The Incredible String Band in the 1960s.

😲What? I thought these were ancient practices?!

Ok, let’s back up a bit here. Kundalini yoga is an ancient technology that has been practiced for thousands of years. A lot happens in that amount of time and so there are many versions of these practices out there. In the west many of us practice a style of Kundalini yoga that came through the Sikh tradition (this is what I practice and teach). It was brought to the west in the 60s by Yogi Bhajan. And during that time, he found out about the Incredible String Band’s Long Time Sun song and started adding it to the end of class.

🙄Isn’t Yogi Bhajan a bit problematic?

Yes. A lot of people choose not to practice Kundalini yoga because of this, but unfortunately most spiritual and magickal paths have had problematic teachers. If we were to stop practicing anything that had connections to problematic teachers, most of us would be without practices pretty quickly.

On any path we must be able to separate the teachings from the teacher.

To throw out thousands of years of ancient wisdom because of one man’s challenges and choices doesn’t work for me. Yes, there have been problematic teachers on this path, but there have (and are!) thousands and thousands of teachers who are doing the work on themselves and holding beautiful safe space for the teachings to be shared and experienced. I like to think I am one of them!

The days of guru worship are over. As you embark on any spiritual journey (including Kundalini) always trust yourself, use discernment and listen to your own intuition.

🤍What’s with everyone wearing white all the time?

It’s said in the teachings that wearing white expands the aura. It becomes a kind of practice in itself to wear white. Because white is harder to keep clean, when wearing it you become more aware of how you eat and where you sit, making you move through the world in a different way.

Wearing white is totally optional. Try it and see how you feel. Or just wear whatever is comfortable for you!

I love the feeling of wearing white when I practice yoga, but I also love colour and so you’ll find me sometimes teaching all in white, other times I’ll be wearing leopard print! 😜

The most important thing is just to be comfortable. Wear leggings, dress like you’re going to the gym, or wear something baggy, flowy and comfy, or a bit of both! There are no rules.

👳‍♀️Ok, and what about the head coverings?

There are various reasons people like to cover their head during Kundalini yoga. It’s said to protect the crown, raising the Kundalini safely through the chakras rather than blasting the crown and connection to source wide open (which isn’t a great idea).

Some teachers say that wearing a turban activates pressure points and/or holds the bones of the skull in correct place for deeper meditation. Others choose to wear a head covering as a way to pay respect to the Sikh tradition and some wear a head covering as a practice in itself or a way to a prepare and set intention to practice.

There is no right or wrong, it’s all about finding what works for you personally as a practice.

🌟How does Kundalini Magick differ from other forms of Kundalini yoga?

My spiritual practice is vast and varied. I love the Kundalini teachings and Kundalini yoga is something I practice daily. But I am also a witch, a magician, a tarot reader, a lightworker, and so many other things!

One thing I have found fascinating is how similar all these paths are when you start diving deep.

In my humble opinion, Kundalini yoga is magick.

I never alter the teachings and will always share them with you exactly as written, but in my classes I will talk about them from not only a yogic perspective but also from a magickal one as well.

I teach both physical yoga and non-physical workshops.

You can find out about new courses and workshops here and check out previous classes here.

What I learned from my 40 day social media break

I know many of you have been following, or rather not following my 40 days off social media experiment and so I wanted to sit down and share with you what I learned in the hopes that maybe it will help you think about your own social media usage.

Maybe it will inspire you to also take 40 days off or change the way you use socials. Maybe this post will help you better understand the people in your life who are constantly attached to their phones, or maybe it will make you think about the things you do give your power away to in your own life and take that power back!

So, Why did I take 40 days off social media?

I haven’t had a break from social media since I first signed up for MySpace. I was going to say Facebook, but actually, it started long before that! I dabbled a couple of times with taking weekends off, Sundays off and I did try to take a week off at one point before I went in for 40 days, but in the interest of transparency, I did look at my feeds more than a few times via my laptop during that time!

Anyway, that’s a long time to be on social media without a break and I was really starting to feel it.

I love social media. I love connecting with my community and friends on these platforms and I love finding new people and accounts. I’ve actually made some amazing lifelong friends from meeting on socials!

But as we are all only too aware these days, social media is a double edged sword.

As much as I was loving the connections and community, I was also starting to notice some negatives. I was spending more time on socials than I wanted to, not just posting for my biz and connecting in positive ways, but scrolling mindlessly and I was also become aware of just how much I fell into comparison and (self) judgement at times.

Cats don’t use social media and they seem pretty happy!

I also started to notice that when I spent too much time on socials my energy didn’t feel so good and my intuition didn’t feel so clear, and not just in the moment of scrolling or briefly afterwards, but longer term.

When I took time to meditate on that I could clearly see that social media was part of the problem. Not only was I picking up on waaaay too much of everyone else’s energy, it was also messing with my nervous system putting me in flight or flight mode and making me feel like I had to constantly be doing something – posting more, having a bigger or deeper impact, commenting more, just generally doing more.

And while I was still able to set some boundaries for myself (not using socials on the weekends for example), I knew I had to do something big before socials became a big problem.

Why 40 days?

40 days is a pretty magical amount of time.

Jesus went into the desert for 40 days where he was tempted by the devil.

40 days is considered the amount of time needed to break a habit and change your conscious mind.

In Kundalini Yoga we often do a specific kriya (set of movements) or meditation for 40 days to not only change a habit but also your destiny.

40 days is a long time, but it’s also not really. It’s achievable. It’s not like you’re signing yourself up for being off social media forever, but it’s also enough time to really get a break and notice the changes.

My findings

OK, enough rambling, so what actually happened when I took 40 days off social media?

I felt relieved.

While I was a little hesitant to put up that post that I was getting off socials for 40 days (meaning I had to go through it!), once the posts were up and the apps were deleted off my phone I actually just felt a deep sense of relief.

I played a lot of Homescapes.

With no social media or work email (I removed that off my phone a while ago!) on my phone, whenever I had nothing to do and picked up my phone, I played Homescapes. As of writing this I’m on level 3290 but although I’ve played it a lot, I can easily just play a few rounds and put my phone down again. I actually also find it really helps when my anxiety pops up to say hello. If you play too add me as a friend! :P

My business did not suffer.

There was actually one week where I sold more digital courses and kits than I had in ages! I stayed in contact with my newsletter subscribers and let them know about workshops and other offerings and while I know that social media is good for my business it was nice to know that people are still finding my work whether I’m posting constantly on socials or not.

Getting off socials also helped me to get clearer about my business, what I’m creating and how I want to show up in the world! I got loads of downloads and ideas about new offerings and workshops.

Time went slower.

When I posted I was back, one person commented saying that the time went quickly, but actually I felt like I was off social media for ages! If time feels like it’s moving too fast, take a break from socials and see if you feel the difference!

I enjoyed the moment.

Without thinking about posting on social media I found myself more present in the moment. Instead of thinking – I have to get photos of this for social media, I was much more able to just be. I still took photos, but they were for me, my friends and family, not for the whole world.

Spent more time walking on the beach than taking photos on the beach, except this one. 😅

I found some deeper self-love.

Without trying to take selfies for socials or scrolling through and judging myself against a bajillion selfies and pics of stunning humans, I found myself letting go of some old, outdated beliefs I had around my physical appearance.

I read more books.

Less time scrolling = more time reading spiritual books and romance novels! I fell in love with so many incredible authors and stories which lit me up so much more than scrolling does!

I realised that social media wasn’t my only problem.

Sometimes when you take away what you think is the problem, you realise what’s really going on. Being addicted to scrolling (or anything) is often just a symptom of something else. I did a lot of shadow work, healing, deep diving and contemplation and uncovered some prickly truths and hidden gems I really needed to see but couldn’t until I removed the obstacle.

I didn’t miss it at all, until the end.

I actually didn’t really miss social media at all until about a week before I was due to come back. At one point I wasn’t sure I ever wanted to get back on socials, but during that last week I had a little buzz of excitement at the idea of getting back on social media, a buzz that I haven’t had in ages, and now I’m feeling more excited than ever to post and share and connect!

I’m making changes moving forward.

Right now, I’m not planning to put the apps back on my phone permanently. I think I’ll put Instagram back on when I have workshops or other offerings to share as posting on stories can be a good way to let people know about those since the algorithm doesn’t always put things in people’s feeds, but I don’t plan to be posting on stories otherwise. I’m also going to be posting like the “geriatric millennial” that I am, and stick to just posting photos for a while and see what happens.

And of course, that’s not set in stone. I evolve and change my mind all the time. But if you do see me posting my breakfast, lunch and dinner every day on stories, feel free to send me a DM and ask me if I’m doing okay! :P

In conclusion:

Take time to smell the roses!

Wow, I didn’t mean to turn this into an essay, but here’s the conclusion – getting off social media for 40 days was awesome. It gave me so much clarity, space, peace and really helped me reconnect with myself again.

I’m not going to leave social media. I love being connected to my soul fam all over the world. But I’m not going to be on social media as much as I used to be, and I’m going to take longer breaks whenever I feel called.

I feel more empowered, confident and conscious about using social media. I feel like I can move forward with social media as a tool I can use for connection and for my business and it no longer has any power over me!

The world doesn’t end when you take time off social media, in fact, it may just help you to see the magic in the world that’s right in front of you.

With love,

Why I'm no Longer Doing Wheel of the Year Readings and What I'm Doing Instead

Predictive readings are old school.

There I said it.

Of course, this is just my opinion and I still know many wonderful readers who choose to look at predictions and many people still love them, maybe even you, but they just aren’t for me. And they aren’t for the people who choose to work with me.

In my humble opinion, predictive readings take away your power and create self-fulfilling prophesies.

I honestly find it absolutely fascinating that the same people who believe in law of attraction, manifestation and free will are happy to sit down and pull 12 cards for the year to see what’s going to happen.

But you either believe in the ability to create your own destiny or you don’t.

Actually, okay, bear with me here. I do believe there are things that we are meant to experience in our lifetime. We do indeed have soul contracts, karma to work out and dharma (your soul’s true calling) to discover. But these are just points in the road. I believe that what we do and where we go when we reach them is totally up to us.

If you’re not familiar with Wheel of the Year readings, these are tarot or oracle readings pulling 13 cards (at least this is the way I’ve done it in the past) – one as a general message or theme for your year in the middle and then 12 cards are placed in a circle, one for each month of the year.

Wheel of the Year Readings have become kind of a tradition for card readers over the years, and the truth is, they are a great sell at this time of year (I’m writing this in December 2022). Many people love predictive readings, they just want someone to tell them what the future holds, that everything is going to be okay, that the year ahead is going to be better, brighter and full of love, joy and prosperity. And hey, who doesn’t want to hear that?

And it’s all fine until your wheel of the year looks like: January – The Tower, February – Three of Swords, March – The Devil, April – Death, need I go on?

Experienced readers know that these cards aren’t necessarily “bad”, but they can bring challenges and they do make even the most awakened among us roll our eyes like – oh jeez, not another Tower year!

And what a way to go into the year, believing it’s going to be tough, challenging, hard work, it’s like you’re exhausted from it all before it starts.

If the last few years have taught us anything, it’s that we just can’t predict the future.

I don’t know one single psychic reader who predicted Covid or the lockdowns or the impact and affect it would have on us all, emotionally, socially and physically. If you’re a reader and you predicted it all, let me know and I’ll happily stand corrected.

I’m really not trying to diss predictive readers here. there are still times and places where I’ll pull a potential outcome card for myself or my clients, but it’s always only ever a potential.

I could go into a whole thing here about my thoughts on the future and timelines and dimensional shifts, but let’s just put it in simply – no one really knows what’s going to happen.

Every intention you have, every decision you make, no matter how big or small can set you off on a totally different course, changing outcomes and changing the future.

When we do these long term predictive readings we forget that by the time we reach February we might be on a totally different path, a few different turns could have led us to a totally different part of the map. Which means those directions you wrote down to get to point X are not going to help you now that you’re not even going there anymore.

When we do predictive readings we do them from a specific point in time. We look ahead from where we’re standing. But as soon as we move ourselves into a different position, the landscape changes.

Working with tarot and oracle cards can guide us on our journey. They can point out things we’re unaware of, but instead of seeing them as the map, showing us where we’re going next, I prefer to see them as our companion on the journey. Our navigator letting us know when we’re running out of gas, or about to hit fork in the road. Their job is not to tell you which road to take but to help you figure out where you want to go and how to get there. Working with the cards can help you make your decision, but they should never be the ones driving the car.

OK, so say you still want to do a wheel of the year reading, I invite you to consider this question: WHY?

Why do you want to pull cards for the year ahead? How is this going to help you? What are you going to do with this information?

Please keep doing your wheel of the year readings if they feel good for you, but don’t just do them because you’ve always done them. Do them because you truly feel like they help and support you on your journey. And if they don’t? Do something else.

I still find it useful to have some new year rituals when it comes to preparing my energy for the new year. There is a collective buzz at this time that I really do believe heightens our ability to manifest. There is also a collective slump about three weeks into January, so it’s important to try to avoid hooking into that one too much! But you can absolutely use this buzzy high vibe highly emotional and hopeful time to do some spiritual work.

Here are some of the things I’ve found useful since I’ve let go of wheel of the year readings:

Zodiac Spread using the Goddesses Among Us Oracle

Do a Zodiac Spread Instead

This still gives you the option to sit down and do your 12 card reading but instead of predicting the whole year, each card position looks at different aspects of your life in the here and now. You can do this spread by using the houses of the zodiac or the energies of the zodiac signs.

Set Intentions / New Year Resolutions

Some simple intention setting can go along way. You can do this in so many different ways, but one thing I like to do is just sit and write down my intentions for each area of my life. I actually do call these my new year’s resolutions, you may or may not like that phrase, but to me it’s all about intention. It’s about sitting down and intentionally thinking about what I want to achieve, experience and feel in the next year.

I try not to get too obsessed with this list, and instead of looking at it over the year and berating myself for not having achieved everything, I revisit it to see if I’m both still on track, but I also remove things I’ve changed my mind about and add things I’m excited about or that have come into my life since. We’re all evolving, and our intentions and resolutions should evolve with us.

Word of the Year

Coming up with a word for the year can be a fun and powerful activity that helps you to tune into the energy of what you want to experience in the year ahead. This is really just another way to set intentions. Make your word something that’s not too specific like peace, joy, harmony or expansion. During the year ask yourself questions like – is this bringing me closer or further away from peace? How can I make joy my priority? Let this word evolve over the year if you like. Nothing is set in stone, including your word of the year.

Numerology

Looking at the numerology of the year and your personal numerology can be a really useful way to tune into the energy of the year ahead and help you to work with it to manifest your dreams.

2023 is going to be a 7 year which has the potential for a lot of luck, success and cosmic alignment, but it also brings opportunities for some deep spiritual and personal development in order to get us into that alignment.

If you’re interested to learn more about how to work with the magic of this 7 year check out my upcoming Kundalini Magick workshop – Luck and Light!

Set Goals

Why do a wheel of the year reading when you can literally just set some goals and work towards achieving them?

As with everything, goals shift and change and evolve over time, which is why I find it helpful to set goals for smaller time periods.

At the moment I’m into setting goals every three months, from solstice to equinox, equinox to solstice. At these times I sit down and write down my goals for my work, my personal life, spiritual path and for my general wellbeing. I make some plans for how I’m going to make them happen and then I (try to) only look ahead that far. Of course I’ll still be thinking of ideas for further ahead, when that happens I write those things down and come back to them later.

If something unexpected comes up, I make space, often letting go of one goal to focus on something else. Sometimes goals fall away and no longer fit, sometimes they come back around. When I set goals I do it with focused intention but also with grace, knowing that there are times to push to make things happen, and times to let things go.

As you step into the new year, or whenever you come across this post, I invite you to remember that you have the power to create your own destiny.

Yes there are maps and sign posts and some roads you must walk for a little while, but ultimately, where you go and how you get there is up to you.

If you’d like to join me for my Luck and Light Kundalini Magick workshop I would love to see you there!

We will dive deeper into numerology, intention setting and I’ll give you some Kundalini Yoga practices that can help you align to the magick of the 7 energy and activate the victory codes within you so that you can walk through your year knowing you have the power to make it magickal!

With love, light and luck,

Sacred Social Media: being protected, authentic and true on social media

What a time to be alive, when you can just grab your phone and in an instant be connected to millions of other people who are into the same things you are!

Social media really is incredible in so many ways. Maybe you even found this blog post through social media, or perhaps we first connected there. I’ve made so many friends on Instagram including people that have become real life friends! Some I see in person, most I just get to chat with over Zoom with a cuppa.

Being able to connect with other witches, lightworkers and spiritual souls on socials is awesome, especially for those of us who work from home, don’t get out much due to whatever reason, or maybe can’t talk about the magickal life to people around us as they may not support our journey.

But while it’s incredible to be able to connect with your fellow wisdom keepers online, social media doesn’t always feel like the most high vibe place on the planet.

For those of us who are sensitive to energy, spending too much time on socials, getting sucked into a never-ending scroll and being bombarded with content that makes us feel bad is not so much fun.

Energy protection is one of my favourite things to talk about because it really did change my life. When I started to protect my energy I could see what was really mine, what wasn’t and I was also able to start hearing the voice of my own intuition and my guides so much more clearly.

One thing I’ve noticed recently is that my intuition always gets a little clogged up when I spend too much time on socials.

And that’s concerning. Because it means the more we are bombarded with content, the harder it is to be discerning, and social media is one of the places where we need to be the most discerning.

When we open up our phones for a quick scroll we’re essentially opening up a portal out into the entire world.

Many of us practice some form of energy protection before we head out for the day, but rarely think about it when we’re scrolling first thing or last thing at night.

Social media is this incredible tool we have to share our light, our love, our truth with the world. We have these platforms to speak and share and radiate so much goodness, and yet these spaces are often just exhausting us to the point where we don’t even want to be on them, let alone use them to share our light.

There is so much weird stuff being posted online these days, and I don’t want to sound judgey, but a lot of what I see on social media is not that high vibe. Dare I even say that the magickal and spiritual community is not even always that high vibe?!

And the thing is, we need more authentic souls on these platforms sharing their love and raising the vibe of the place, but we can only do that if we’re awake and aware and using social media consciously.

So here are some simple tips to help you protect yourself and be more authentically you and true on socials:

Protect your energy on socials

Before you open your phone or laptop take a moment to affirm and intend that you are protected. You can do this in many different ways, check out my book Witch, Please: Empowerment and Enlightenment for the Modern Mystic for more tips, but a couple of easy ways to do it are visualising yourself in a bubble of light, holding a smoky quartz crystal while you post and scroll, or just affirm - I am protected before you open up.

Unfollow or mute accounts that make you feel shitty

If it doesn’t inspire you, support you or help you feel more connected to the person posting, just go ahead and unfollow or mute. You don’t have to be blown away by every single piece of content someone posts, but if it makes you feel shitty for whatever reason (comparison, jealousy, not in alignment with your values, just annoys you, etc.) let it go.

Following thousands of people online just means you never get to see the content you want from the people you really do want to stay following, so clear your feed, your head and your heart in one go!

You can do this by either going through all the accounts you follow, or do what I do. When I see something come up I just don’t resonate with, I go to that person’s account, check to see if it’s a one off or if I just don’t vibe with what they are posting anymore. Then I unfollow or mute if it’s someone I want to stay connected with.

Fudge the algorithm

Since the algorithm stopped showing posts to a huge number of our followers people have gotten on the “post for the algorithm” trend.

Look, I’ve tried. I tried to make the algorithm happy. I posted at the right times. I posted reels. I posted daily. It rarely worked. Other times I posted the most random stuff and it had the best engagement ever.

Don’t try to make the algorithm happy. Just post stuff you think will inspire and support your community and post what inspires and supports you!

Screw the numbers

There are incredible accounts out there with hardly any followers who have such a beautiful and engaged community. There are other accounts with massive followings and tumbleweed when they post.

Numbers don’t mean what they used to mean. What matters now is the connection you make with your followers. If you hit one person right in the heart that’s better than reaching 1m people who could take you or leave you imho.

Actually connect with people

Ah, I remember the good old days when you could send someone and DM and they would actually respond! Some of the best people I know I met through some comment and DM exchanges!

Don’t be afraid to reach out to an account you love and let them know! And if someone reaches out to you, send them a reply, even if it’s just to say thanks!

The community aspect of social media has sadly disappeared over the years as it’s been more focused on brands and selling and bigger accounts, but there are still so many people on there that would love to be your friend!

Clear your social media accounts

Clear your own accounts every now and then. Delete any non-high vibe comments, delete any old content you’ve put up that no longer resonates, send in a wave of Violet Flame energy, stick your phone in some burning incense, light a white candle, do a banishing spell, just do something to symbolise your accounts being cleared.

Be authentic, be be authentic

There is so much content on socials these days that is soooooo inauthentic. As intuitives we can just tell when someone is posting for the algorithm, copying someone else’s style, or just throwing shit against the wall to see what sticks. And while inauthentic content may go viral, it can also feel a bit gross to those consuming it.

Hey, we’ve all posted content that didn’t land with our audience or our hearts, it’s no biggie. Just delete and try again.

Post from the heart. Whatever that means to you. Post what YOU want to post, not what anyone else is posting or what you think you should be posting. You do you. And that’s how your people are going to find you, even if there’s only like six of them. But who cares! You found your six people! WOW! :D

Use it for good

If you’re anything like me, you probably want to have some kind of positive impact in the world. Maybe you want to help raise the consciousness of the planet, or just like the idea of helping someone have a better day (same thing!). So think about how you can use social media as part of your spiritual service work. How could you make a positive difference through your social media? How can you bring more love and light to the people on the platform? How can you use it to share your passion, your heart and your purpose? How could what you post inspire someone else on their journey?

Take some time off

Being so connected all the time is actually hella bad for our brains. It exhausts the nervous system, and as I touched on earlier, it actually depletes your ability to tune into your own intuition.

So take some time off. Set yourself some boundaries.

I’ve been taking Sundays off socials most weeks, and actually it’s been turning into hardly checking at all on the weekends. I’m not perfect at this, but I find the less I’m on socials, the less obsessed I am with checking socials. It’s a real catch 22. If you can get a bit of time away, you’ll find you have more time to live a life worth putting on social media! :P

How to Deal with Intense Energies

“Intense energy” has become a phrase we’re using a lot in the spiritual community these days.

Mostly because it’s the only way we know how to describe what’s going on.

Seems like every five minutes these days we are dealing with some new aspect of the cosmic washing machine cycle.

Whether it’s the Full Moon, Mercury Retrograde, Solstice, Lion’s Gate, lockdown, or just another day on planet earth, there’s almost always something ready to try and knock us off our feet.

Then of course, there are the intense energies we deal with in our personal lives - grief, trauma, aging, loss, illness, dreams being dashed…

There’s a lot to deal with on the earthly plane, but the good news is that there are plenty of spiritual tools and practices we can use to help us navigate through it all while staying grounded, in our power and able to keep shining bright.

The Tower from the Cosmic Tarot.

This is by no means a definitive list. We are all different and we all deal with intense energies and difficult times differently. These are just some of the things that I have found work well for me in difficult times. x

1. Don’t buy into the drama and ignore the hype

While it’s always useful to have someone affirm what we’re feeling in the form of “oh yeah, the energy is intense right now!” it’s another to seek out and surround yourself with constant talk, and let’s face it, moaning and complaining about all this intense energy.

The truth is, every day on this planet is intense. It’s also an incredible blessing and such a gift just to be here, so let’s not waste time getting caught up in a self-fulfilling prophesy that makes these times so much harder than they have to be.

2. GROUND yourself.

Grounding practices are hugely underrated in my opinion, and most teachings on grounding only touch the surface.

Grounding is so much more than touching grass (although it can be that too!). Grounding is about grounding into the present moment, your own body, your own life, your purpose.

It’s about drawing your higher self down into your physical reality.

My favourite ways to ground my energy are through daily Kundalini Yoga practices, working with the Earth Star Chakra, eating lots of great vegan food, daily walks (even when the weather sucks) and physical exercise.

Many people fly out of their bodies during intense times, but this is actually when we need to get into our bodies the most!

3. Ritual and Routine

Agh, I know. Not everyone wants to hear about “routine”.

It doesn’t sound very divine feminine rising, does it?

But actually, when life feels chaotic, the best thing you can do is create a container for yourself and for your magic.

Think of it as energy protection and self-care.

Ritual and routine looks different for us all, but it can be as simple as creating (and sticking to as much as possible!) a daily spiritual practice, going to bed at the same time every night, working with an online fitness program and showing up each day, turning your phone off at 6pm and not looking at your phone in the morning until you’ve done three minutes of ego eradicator.

I know this sounds basic, and maybe not very intuitive, but if you’re feeling wonky, try to create some kind of routine for yourself, even if it’s just a daily cup of tea or card pull.

Give yourself permission to change the routine anytime too!

Archangel Azrael can help you through big life changes, and Archangel Metatron can guide you back to your own spiritual power! From the Angels Among Us Oracle.

4. Call on your spirit guides and angels for support

I know, like, duh! Of course we should do this.

But it’s often when things feel most challenging, we forget we have a whole team in spirit behind us, rooting for us and waiting to lend a helping hand!

Call on divine assistance in whatever way you like. A simple - “hey, guides and angels, I need some help right now!” is all you need to do. Then ask them for what you need.

5. Enjoy the wild ride

Imagine if instead of hating on the intense energies when they hit us, we decided to go all in and fully experience and appreciate them?

We didn’t incarnate for all the stars to be aligned in our favour every second of the day. We knew what we were getting into. We knew that Earth school would be chaotic and challenging and wonderful and painful and magical.

But we still came. In fact, most of us were so excited about the idea of it all!

We wanted to LIVE. We wanted to experience it all, the good, the bad, and the cosmically ugly.

The intensity of life is what helps us grow as souls, and it’s what expands our hearts and challenges our minds.

So next time you feel a little woozy from the cosmic alignments or the challenges of life, try to remember - this is what you came for, to experience it all!

6. Live in the now

Don’t wait for the intense energy to be over. Don’t put your life on hold.

If we wait until the intense energy is over to live our lives, we’re going to be waiting our whole lives!

If you need to take some time out, take it. If you need a retreat and a social media hiatus, do it. If you need to go into a blanket fort and binge Stranger Things, go for it.

But don’t wait until the perfect moment to live your life.

This, right now, no matter what is happening in the cosmos, is the perfect moment to live your life.

So, gorgeous soul, how do you deal with intense energy? Share in the comments so we can all find something that supports us in challenging times!

With love, light and staying anchored,

The Path of the Christian Witch

The Path of the Christian Witch

A while ago now I wrote a post called WTF is a Christian Witch.

As you can probably imagine, that post got a bit of interest - both positive and, yep, negative. It’s actually my most read post ever with 34,273 views as of the writing of this post! :o

Most weeks I still get notifications of new comments on that post and when I see them pop into my inbox I’m never quite sure if it’s going to be another one of my soul fam saying they resonated, or a Christian trying to save me from my misguided ways!

Since writing that post I’ve had a lot of people get in touch, saying they resonate with the idea of blending these two belief systems but they just don’t really know how to do that.

So in this post I’m going to try to explain what it means to me personally to be on the path of the Christian Witch, how I go about it, and how you can begin to develop your own practices and path too!

Angel Feathers

Being a Christian Witch is just one path to love

One of the most important things about this path is knowing why you resonate with the idea of being a Christian Witch (or whatever word or label, or no label you want to use for yourself!).

I’ve always resonated with Jesus because I believe his whole ministry was about L.O.V.E!

Nothing more, nothing less. He wanted to guide people back to love - love for each other, love for themselves. He spoke so much about forgiveness and non-judgement and just generally being a good person and living a good life.

To me that makes him one heck of a teacher whatever else he may or may not have been!

But I also feel there is so much love to be found in other paths, in the connection with nature, with other teachers and deities, which is part of the reason why being a Christian alone never worked for me.

So, if you want to develop your connection to the divine and to your own inner light by following the path of the Christian Witch, consider what it means to you.

Why this path over any others? How does this spiritual path help you navigate this world? At it’s core, what is this really about for you?

For me, it’s about finding my way back to love a little more every day.

My (kinda messy but does the trick!) altar x

My (kinda messy but does the trick!) altar x

There is no right or wrong way to be a Christian Witch (or anything!)

There are no rules here. No dogma. No ancient traditions or rituals to follow. There’s just you and your own beliefs. To me this is everything.

The rules of the church don’t work for me. I can’t have someone telling me “this is how it’s done because this is how it’s always been done”, especially when “the church” of today was built upon layer upon layer of “stuff” that has very little to do with Jesus himself.

Jesus himself didn’t create the church, and as much as I love a good singalong at a mega church, I’m not convinced any of the churches that exist right now were exactly what Jesus had in mind.

I’ve spent quite a bit of time studying Wicca, Paganism and other paths of Witchcraft over the years and while I certainly do draw from some of them, in some ways I find many of the “rules” of organised witchery to be just as dogmatic as the church. That may ruffle some feathers, but if you’ve spent any time in the witchy communities online you’ll know some of those communities can be just as “my way or the highway” as other religious groups!

So for me being a Christian Witch is all about doing things my own way.

It looks different to everyone who’s on this path.

Some people go to church and read the bible but also use oracle cards and work with the cycles of the moon.

Then there are others who will follow more of a Wicca or more traditional Witchcraft path but will choose Jesus and Mary as their patron and matron deities.

You may be more Christian leaning with a Tarot deck in your bedside draw, or perhaps you are more Witchcraft leaning with a bible on your altar.

Whatever works for you is what is right for you.

It’s about your own relationship with the divine all around and within you.

It can overwhelming and confusing at times to just “do whatever you want” on the spiritual journey, so if you need a few more ideas on how to get started with a practice I’ll share some things that I do which you may like to do also, but remember this path is your path and you get to decide what it looks like, no one else.

The Ascension Path teachings incorporate many different aspects of the divine including Jesus, Angels and other Ascended Masters. It’s a high vibrational pathway back to love, higher levels of consciousness, wisdom and peace. Some of my favourite Ascension teachers are Tim Whild, Diana Cooper and Joshua David Stone.

Work with oracle decks that are Christian Witch friendly

Some of my favourites are The Jesus Deck, Work Your Light Oracle, Crystal Mandala Oracle, Art Through the Starstream Oracle and Oracle of the Angels.

Work with the Christ Consciousness

While we can certainly call on Jesus to assist us, we can also call on the energy of the Christ Consciousness or Christ Light to activate and work within us, helping us to become more Christ like, embodying the energy, love and light of the Christ energy.

I like to do this by just saying out loud “I invoke the Christ Light” and visualising that my whole body is full of golden light. I do this with the intention that I may live my life with love, compassion, peace and harmony. But of course, you can do this in any way that feels right for you.

Read the bible including the lost gospels

But, read it with discernment, with your crown chakra and heart activated.

I love the New New Testament which includes many of the lost gospels.

Follow your heart and create your own path

While I hope that this post has maybe inspired you a little or given you some ideas for exploring your path, remember that no one can tell you how to be spiritual but you.

Only you know the way for you, so make time to get quiet, meditate and listen to your own heart and soul.

With so much love and light,

What does it mean to show up and do the work?

This week on social media I posted about “showing up and doing the work”.

A lot of people resonated with the post and I had a bunch of DMs from people saying things like - “thanks for the reminder, I haven’t been showing up like I want to”, and I also had a few asking me what it actually meant to show up and do the work.

Good question!

It’s one of those phrases that’s thrown around a lot in spiritual and self help circles, so I thought I’d throw my two cents in and let you know what it means to me (because this stuff always means something different to each of us!) to show up and “do the work”.

As someone who does spiritual work (and writes YA indie novels!) for a living, it’s kind of my job to tune in and pass on information that comes through. Whether that’s in a one on one session, or through something I feel called to share on social media or on my blog.

When I say something like “this came through in my meditation” or “my guides have been telling me this” people often ask how they can receive the same kind of downloads and intuitive hits.

The answer is - show up and do the work.

This is what showing up and doing the work looks like! From the #MoonchildTarot x

This is what showing up and doing the work looks like! From the #MoonchildTarot x

For every one time I go into meditation and fly off to the Sirius star system and get some download that gives me a huge insight and majorly shifts things for me there are 100 times I show up and I just stay on planet earth. (Which is still cool btw, and sometimes very much needed!)

the more I show up and do the work the easier it gets to chat with my guides, hear what they have to say, know what my spreads mean, visit higher dimensional realms and know what my next steps are!

Someone sent me a DM and said that they were worried they would show up and still nothing would happen. The thing is though, showing up is the reward in itself.

When you are the type of person that shows up for yourself, for your heart, soul and spiritual journey, when you show up for your dreams, you can’t lose. Even if you don’t get exactly what you wanted, becoming that person, that’s a huge reward in itself.

Here’s a simple of list of practical ways you can show up and do the work:

  • Develop a consistent spiritual practice

  • Meditate every day!

  • Journal

  • Live consciously

  • Help other people

  • Do shadow work (look at your own “stuff” and work through it!)

  • Pull your own cards daily to help you tune in

  • Read spiritual books

  • Take workshops and courses - Woo Woo 101 is a great place to start!

  • Create some routines and structure

  • Practice self-love on those days when it’s all too hard to show up (practising self-care is part of showing up!)

  • Join The Circle for resources to help you and support on the path!

  • When your guides give you a nudge or some guidance, follow it!

  • However you show up and do the work, do it regularly!

Most of all, make sure you are showing up and doing the work in the way that works for you and your life. There is no right or wrong way to show up. You know if you’re doing it or not!

If you’re still not sure how to start showing up check out my classes and The Circle membership to help you get on track! Or come and join the totally free Spiritual Journey Pitstop group and chat to like-minded souls about the spiritual path!

A weekend in Glastonbury

A weekend in Glastonbury x

You've probably heard of Glastonbury, maybe you've even been on your own spiritual pilgrimage!

Maybe you're like WHAT IS IT?

Glastonbury is a super magical place, it's known for all sorts of magic. It's said to be the Isle of Avalon, the place where King Arthur and Guinevere used to hang out, and are allegedly buried. Glastonbury is said to be the birthplace of Christianity in the west, the home of the Holy Grail and there are also tales of Jesus and Joseph of Arimathea visiting the Isle Avalon in during Jesus's lost years.

Whatever you do or don't resonate with, Glastonbury is a pretty magical and powerful place, full of mysteries. Me and the BF decided to go see if we could work some of them out.

I'd been to Glastonbury in passing a few years ago, but this was the first time I'd have a chance for a really good potter around. We were only in town for one night and we chose a leisurely weekend over running around trying to do all the things. There is loads more to see than what we did, and if you are coming for a visit and want to see all of it, I'd recommend staying for maybe three nights, or even more, depending on how much time you want to spend.

K, so are you ready to come with me to Glastonbury?? :D

I love a good road trip, and no road trip is as cool as one that LITERALLY drives past Stonehenge! :O

If you watched that, you could probs tell I was a bit excited. We didn't pop in as we'd been pretty recently, but isn't it lovely to drive past? :D

We were super hungry when we arrived, but as soon as we got out the car we saw this! :O

Wytches' Market Glastonbury

Very cool. I mean, we don't even have a crystal shop where I live, let alone something this cool! Glastonbury is definitely the Mecca of Witchy Woo in the UK.

So then we went to find food and we found the Rainbow's End cafe which is veggie and voted number 1 for food on Trip Advisor.

Rainbow's End Cafe Glastonbury

It did not disappoint! The plate was basically overflowing and probably could have fed three people. I had a roasted veggie and stilton crumble, garlic potatoes, Greek salad and potato salad! OMG it was soooo good but I was pretty stuffed afterwards!

So we decided to walk it off and go up the Tor!

Glastonbury Tor

The BF wanted to go up the quick steep way but I'm actually kind of lazy, so I suggested we go up the longer but less steep way, it wasn't actually that steep in the end.

Glastonbury Tor

It was a pretty grey day and we were thinking it was about to rain the whole time, but it didn't! Hoorah!

The Tor is an interesting place with an incredible history (Google it!). It has a strong powerful masculine and air energy (or was it just super windy?).

I sat and meditated for a few minutes and I just felt majorly grounded, like nothing, no one was going to be able to knock me down.

Glastonbury Tor
Glastonbury Tor

The view from the Tor is glorious!

Glastonbury Tor
Glastonbury Tor

One of my favourite traditions in this part of the world is giving offerings in the form of ribbons on trees.

There are all sorts of reasons this is done; an offering to the spirits of the trees, the Fae, the Gods, the land, the ancestors, a prayer, a wish. I added my ribbon, said a few words and then we trudged back down the country lanes back into town.

Glastonbury Tor
Starchild Glastonbury

You can't go to Glastonbury without popping into the Starchild Glastonbury shop.

It's like an olde worlde apothecary full of oils, herbs and magical tools. I picked up a White Poplar Tree Perfume, a bottle of the Chalice Space Aroma (I adore their space aromas!!) and a frothy white and pink candle.

Time sure flies when you're shopping for magical goodies, and before we knew it, it was time for dinner.

We strolled around the town looking for a place for a drink and ended up in the George and Pilgrim which is probably one of the most legit English pubs I've ever been in.

Glastonbury alley

We went out for a fancy pizza and beer at the local Italian place GiGis.

It was was like being in a 1980's time warp and suited me just fine thanks very much!

Labyrinth books Glastonbury

Book shopping before breakfast?! And the whole book shop is full of spiritual books? This is my kind of weekend away! :D

Labyrinth Books is awesomesauce.

IMG_2821.JPG

And the Hundred Monekys cafe literally has awesomesauce (organic brown sauce!).

We grabbed the veggie breakfast, but they also have vegan options too. In fact the whole of Glastonbury is fairly accommodating for veggies and vegans which always makes life a little easier when weekending away!

Speaking Tree Glastonbury

Book shopping straight after breakfast? I could get used to this! :D

Speaking Tree Books Glastonbury

If you check out Speaking Tree Books don't miss the second floor! It's chock full of spiritual books too!

Chalice Well Glastonbury

We decided to spend Sunday morning at the Chalice Well Gardens, and it was life.

Chalice Well Glastonbury

Peeps have been coming to this well for it's healing properties for thousands of years...

Chalice Well Glastonbury

The energy of the divine mother is strong here.

The whole time I was there I felt so held, safe and strong and loved. It was Like a powerful peace washing over me.

Glastonbury Chalice Well
Chalice Well Glastonbury

I filled two bottles to take home and use for magic making, potions, ritual baths and it does great things to my crystals too!

Sadly we had to get back on the road and head home, but with my heart full of divine love and my pockets full of crystals I know I'm never far from Glastonbury or the energy that runs through it's streets and hills in this magical place.

With so much love and light,

Gurus, Spiritual Teachers + How to find your own way on the Spiritual Path

gurus, spiritual teachers + how to find your own way on the spiritual path x

The following post (with a couple edits) was originally part of a newsletter sent out on 27th August 2017. It had such a big response I thought I'd post it as a blog for y'all. x

The news in India of riots and people being killed in the streets over the arrest of a guru has shone a massive light on the whole guru thing this week. My heart really goes out to all those affected, but I can't help but look at all this and just wonder where we're going so wrong.

The internet is ablaze again this week over the news that Doreen Virtue is giving up Tarot and predictive readings, taking her name off her Angel Tarot decks and moving even closer to her Christian path.

This has brought up a lot for people, and we are holding space in the Spiritual Journey Pitstop for anyone who feels that they need to talk about what all this is bringing up for them with no judgement from either side. However you are feeling about all this is totally valid and important for you to express and move through, but I have been asking people to share from a place of what this is bringing up for them personally, rather than making assumptions about DV, her path, work and publisher, because even though we feel like we know her, we really have no idea what is really going on and speculation doesn't really help us to move through it.

As you may know, I've been a big fan of hers for years, but I honestly, personally don't give a hoot if she burns all her decks in a Christian ritual on top of a hill and gives her life to Jesus or not. (I did that once myself but it's a story for another time).

I really just wanted to talk in this blog post about the whole "guru" thing and how it's failing us, and how we are failing ourselves by looking up to peeps to be our gurus and what we can do instead.

I've actually unfollowed a few people on Instagram recently after I have had in-person encounters with them that left me reeling, feeling that who they are behind the Instagram is actually not in alignment with what they teach + preach online.

We are all very human and we can't put someone on a pedestal just because they have a book deal and we don't.

Be your own Hierophant - from the Cosmic Tarot x

Be your own Hierophant - from the Cosmic Tarot x

I have people message me sometimes saying that I'm their "spiritual teacher" and while that's incredibly flattering it also freaks me out! LOL!

Because I'm just another person on the path really. If anything, I prefer to see myself as a kind of "bridge".

My job is to help you to get from over there to over here, more aligned on your path, more connected to your own guidance.

That's what a spiritual teacher is really supposed to do for us I think, just help us find our own way.

When we put so much pressure on one person, or a group of people, to have all the answers for us, to do the work for us, or to always be on the same path as us, things get dangerous.

We are all on our own journey and what I share with you guys is just where I'm at with mine.

Find your own way through meditation! Card from the NewAgeHipster InstaOracle x

Find your own way through meditation! Card from the NewAgeHipster InstaOracle x

If we'd met 20 years ago I would have been dragging you along with me to my fave mega church, another few years before that I would've been asking you to join my Wicca based high school coven!

My journey is going to change, just like yours is.

You always have the choice to keep following my journey or not.

The choice is yours.

When we are looking for spiritual info there are some things we can do to help us be discerning about someone else's story and teachings to help us find our own path.

And as always, even this list might not totally resonate with you! Take what does, leave the rest. :D

1. Follow people who say "take what resonates and leave the rest".

:P

2. Avoid people who have any sort of vibe that their way is the "right" way and other ways are "wrong".

Dogma is so old paradigm.

3. Read and research

whatever you're into, read loads of different books by different authors, watch videos on YouTube, listen to Podcasts etc. Cast your net for teachings wide.

4. Work with your own energy first and foremost.

When we protect (check out my free e-book for that!), clear and ground ourselves it's much easier to tune into our own intuition and guidance. (Woo Woo 101 starts soooon!)

5. Remember that your spiritual teachers are just as human as you.

A book deal doesn't make you more enlightened and a whole lot of followers doesn't mean you're more connected to the universe.

6. Unfollow and let go of whatever doesn't vibe with you, or no longer vibes.

We are never going to resonate with anyone 100% but if you no longer find someone's content useful or interesting or empowering in anyway, you can just hit unfollow and move on.

My work is moving more and more into a direction of helping you find the answers for yourself

I reaaaaally want to help you do the work that's going to help you find your own path. I'm not interested in you doing things "my way", I just want you to find the right way for you.

You can work with me via a spiritual mentoring session and I'll hold space for you and help you find your own connection to your own guidance. Come join the SPJ group or keep hanging out for free content, but whatever you do, just do what feels right for you.

With love, light and going your own way,

Vix
